A person in this role is expected to:

  • Partner closely with Product to shape and de-risk the roadmap 2–3 weeks in advance.
  • Translate the Head of Engineering's long-term vision into actionable, short-term technical direction.
  • Act as the primary translator between stakeholders and engineering, providing clear visibility into tradeoffs and project health.
  • Take full accountability for sprint goals, ensuring high-quality releases are delivered on schedule.
  • Raise the engineering bar by providing senior technical leadership and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Align individual career aspirations with company milestones, actively coaching engineers to reach their next level.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years as a Software Engineer working on complex web applications.
  • At least 2 years leading product teams (not guilds) including managing people.
  • Experience owning systems end-to-end, including architecture, implementation, reliability, and long-term maintenance.
  • A mindset geared toward long-term ownership: improving systems over time, simplifying where possible, and reducing operational overhead.
